Hi all, I would like to leave a positive review for my confinement nanny, Ah Moi, 江春妹。I chosed her after doing 3 phone interviews with different CLs.

Re: Breastfeeding

She is pro BF and direct latch. If LO cries after an 1hr latch, she will just bring the LO to me to latch again, she doesn’t comment like, “maybe you have no milk, you need to feed FM” (discouraging words).

She is good with syringe feeding too (I

I am pretty particular with this that no bottle feeding until LO is >2mths old)

Re: Night Feed

As I sleep with my elder girl, she will take care of the LO, change his diaper then walk over n wake me up for latching. Once done, I will pass the LO back to her so that I can contd with my sleep.

Re: Food

Personally, I love her cooking, typical Chinese food not fusion. She doesn’t use much salt, sugar n oil. I did not buy/provide any msg n seasoning and she did not request for them too. She told me she likes the original taste with no salt n sugar too.

When I invite my parents/friends/relatives over, she will offer to prepare lunch and dinner for everyone. I do understand that some CLs only cook for the mum and not the rest, I am grateful for her kind gestures.

She will cook a separate meal(soup, fish) for my elder girl. My elder girl loves her, she will also assist in feeding her, changing her diapers and bathing her if I am busying latching the LO. Just want to share one occasion that In order for my girl to eat ikan bilis, she went to remove the head and bones of each ikan bilis. 😍

She will prepare a Double-boiled soup with black chicken and XO / DOM / ginseng / Danggui every fortnight for me to drink before sleep. PS: This is in additional of the herbal soup I drink for lunch/dinner.

Her bread and butter. Note, she doesn’t carry the LO whole day. Both of us agree that LO need to learn to self-smoothe to sleep and entertain himself, no carrying n walking around.

Re: Cooked Water n herbal bath

During confinement, I only use cooked water for washing hands /brushing teeth and etc. She will ensure there is always a bowl of cooked water for me to wash my hands at all times. Same goes for herbal bath daily for me to bathe.

Note: She doesn’t prepare fancy meals with fancy decorations. Typical Chinese meal with 1soup, 1 meal, 1 veg then 1 soup, 1 fish for my elder girl. She only speaks Chinese and Malay not English.

I had an enjoyable confinement with Aunty(Kong ah Moi, Chun Mei). She is very easy going and good natured. My husband gave her some feedback in her first few days with us and she was quick to take in the feedback, which we appreciate.

Food

Her cooking is tasty and healthy, as she does not rely on msg or heavy seasoning to bring out flavours of the food. She ensures that there is sufficient red date tea throughout the day and will also boil black chicken soup with DOM for added nutrition. Aunty also takes the initiative to cook suitable dishes for my husband and my elder daughter, which helped to ease our burden and we are really thankful for this. My elder daughter loves some of the dishes that aunty cooks. Aunty also keeps the kitchen clean and tidy after cooking.

Babycare

Aunty is gentle and patient with baby. She does not carry baby unnecessarily, which is helpful in establishing good sleep hygiene. Aunty also takes the initiative to boil herbs for baby’s bath everyday, even when this was not discussed previously.

Breastfeeding

Aunty is supportive of breastfeeding and direct latching. I had some issues with direct latching and aunty tries her best to support whenever I attempted to latch baby. One thing which I really appreciate is that aunty is open to alternative feeding methods eg syringe feeding, cup feeding, and is not pushy in getting us to bottle feed. She is also mindful about not overfeeding baby, which gives us a peace of mind.

Others

Aunty is not calculative and is kind enough to help to do simple cleaning around the house (vacuum, mop and even washing toilet). She also goes the extra mile to help with my elder daughter and husband’s laundry, which we are grateful for.

Note that aunty is not tech savvy so she may need guidance on how to operate certain household appliances at the start. However, there are no issues once she gets the hang of it and becomes familiar.

Have shared some photos of auntie’s cooking with MOT.

Pros:

Auntie is very caring and very concerned about mummy’s well being. She is also self-initiated, as she will wash the dishes if my helper is not around. She will also ask for my food preference, and cook accordingly. She is quite organized in terms of her duties, like she prepares in advance of the bath water, red date tea, and ingredients to cook everyday. She is hygienic and very alert when it comes to taking care of baby, and she cares alot for the baby too.

Cons:

She sleeps w 27degrees (i got give her blanket) but thats too hot for my baby. So rashes developed today. Told her to switch on 25degrees for the baby.

Overall, she is a simple and nice lady. So i highly recommend her. 👍🏻 but i dont think she wants to be long term babysitter, she is just doing this for leisure coz her kids all grown up.

She is quite adequate in her baby care, like bathing baby, cleaning baby, feeding milk and all.

Pros:

– overall aunty is very pleasant, nice, very easy to talk to and friendly. We enjoyed our conversations with her and having her around the house

– she loves cooking and cooks well

– proactive in taking care of baby and mummy, alert to wake up for night feeds

– when helper not around, she will proactively vacuum the floor and wash the dishes

– she is quite adaptable to our preferences e.g. initial 2 weeks we wanted to do cup feeding but she preferred bottle feeding. However she was willing to adapt to our request and did cup feeding.

Cons:

– we find that her hygiene/cleanliness in the kitchen can be improved
